Billo was a sweet kid. Always obedient and finishing homework on time. He was among the top ten in every class every year. The secret behind his success was the staggering amount of homework and classwork he solved every day. There was not one day when his homework or classwork was pending. The other kids envied him sometimes.
Billo had tutors – tutors for almost every subject. His mother made sure the tutors were well-experienced and kind towards her son. Billo had tuition for every grade. His mother wanted him to be ready for the Class 10 board exam with full knowledge of theories and concepts. He had the same tutors for three consecutive years – Class 6, Class 7 and Class 8 tuition were all taught by Meena Ma’am, Sujoy Sir and Ramesh Sir, who travelled to his house to teach him. Billo had excellent relationships with them, and the tutors were thankful to have such a dedicated student.
However, a new chapter started when these three tutors refused to teach Billo for the higher classes – 9th standard onwards. They expressed their lack of experience in teaching the higher grades, and Billo, being a dedicated student, deserved the best. So, Billo’s mother started searching for new tutors who could prepare him with the best learning resources.
Problems started when Billo’s mother was not able to find a good Science tutor nearby. She could find two tutors who would teach him English and Social Science. After two weeks of searching, she managed to find a Maths tutor who agreed to come to their house and give personal tuition to Billo like the other tutors. She contacted many for Science – some refused to come home and personally teach Billo, while some seemed less experienced in handling students of higher classes.
A relative of theirs finally came to the rescue. He was Billo’s maternal uncle whose kid had already finished school and enrolled in a medical college. This tutor was near Billo’s uncle but far away from Billo’s house. His mother decided on two separate tutors for Science – one for Biology and another for Physics and Chemistry. Billo liked the idea.
After a month of research and suggestions from different people, Billo’s mother found a Physics and Chemistry tutor for Billo. This tutor was very famous. Many students had scored ninety-plus marks in the subjects because of this teacher, but he was 15 kilometres away from Billo’s house. “Why can’t I ever find good Physics and Chemistry tuition near me!” Billo wondered in frustration. Billo’s mother convinced him – quality learning is more important than worrying about the distance.
Finally, Billo decided to sign up for this tutor’s classes. And so he went to Physics and Chemistry tuition thrice a week and travelled thirty kilometres in addition to attending school. For those three days, twenty-four hours seemed less to live by. He began slacking in his regular homework and classwork. Sleep became more important to him day by day, and he remembered seeing street lights more than he remembered ruffling through his books. And now you know why Billo failed.
