If I was looking to sell my old iMac, I would certainly be curious to discover what the going rates are for these devices prior to parting with one. Older models obviously attract a lower cash value, while the newer ones are the most valuable. Having an idea of how much you might be able to get can help you decide what you want to do with your old computer. Below, we look at how much you might get for various models of iMacs based on what they are currently being sold for online.
iMac G5 (2004 – 2005)
This computer changed the game for Apple, and the world in many ways. Being the first 64-bit desktop computer, the iMac G5 was capable of a level of performance that was unseen before its release. When it was released, it cost around $1,999, which is equivalent to about $2,810 today.
Unfortunately, you probably won’t be able to attract such a price nowadays. You can actually purchase these devices from between £50 – £100 on sites like Ebay – and that’s with them being in good working order.
Some collectors might be interested in buying it, though, as this device does hold some historical significance.
Aluminum iMac (2007 – 2012)
This iMac marked a drastic redesign of the lineup in terms of aesthetics, incorporating a sleek aluminium, plastic and glass enclosure. This trend has continued until this day, and this look has become characteristic of Apple products. Many people still use this model, as it still works perfectly fine for most tasks and can handle the latest software.
Depending on the condition of your aluminum iMac, you could fetch a price of anywhere between £350 – £600.
Tapered edge iMac
This iMac differs from its predecessor in that the edges have been tapered and the screen is extremely thin. They run fast and are great computers, but one major downside to this device is that it is non-upgradeable. Unlike other models where you can add hard drives and other extras, this iMac doesn’t support upgrades due to the lack of housing space. If you have a tapered edge iMac to sell, you can expect to receive around £400 – £800, depending on the condition.
Colorful iMac
This model marked another significant shift in aesthetic design for Apple, as well as the design of the computer itself. Using the new M1 chip, this computer is much faster than all of the previous iterations of iMac. The look of these desktops is also very stylish, with seven vibrant colours to choose from.
Because these are still very new, you can definitely receive a good price if you have one to sell. On Ebay, these devices are holding their value around the £900 mark, so you should aim to receive something similar.
